Jùshě Lùn Sòng Shū Jì 俱舍論頌疏記

Notes on the Commentary on the Abhidharmakośa Verses by 遁麟 (述)

About the work

The Jùshě Lùn Sòng Shū Jì 俱舍論頌疏記 (CBETA X53n841) is a Tang dynasty 29-juan sub-commentary ( 記) on 圓暉’s Jùshě lùn sòng shū (KR6l0036, T1823), composed by the monk Dùnlín 遁麟 (遁麟), a student of 圓暉. The text is preserved in the Xuzangjing (卍新纂大日本續藏經) Vol. 53, No. 841, with a table of contents covering juan 1 through 29. The first juan includes a section titled 釋序文 (glosses on the preface) before proceeding to the main commentary content chapter by chapter.

Prefaces

The first section (釋序文) is 遁麟’s commentary on the preface to 圓暉’s text (the 賈曾 Jiǎ Céng preface). The main commentary begins with 分別界品第一之一.

Abstract

Dùnlín 遁麟 (also known as Fùchūn shāmén 富春沙門 “the monk from Fùchūn”; fl. mid-to-late 8th century CE) was a student of 圓暉 (圓暉) who composed this extensive sub-commentary covering nearly all 30 juan of 圓暉’s Sòng Shū. The genre ( 記, “notes”) represents a disciple’s explanatory record of a teacher’s commentary — a format central to the transmission of Chinese Buddhist scholasticism. At 29 juan, Dùnlín’s is the most substantial surviving sub-commentary on 圓暉’s text and was particularly important for the transmission of the Sòng Shū tradition to Japan.
