Chéng wéishí lùn jíjiě 成唯識論集解
Compiled Explanations of the Demonstration of Consciousness-Only by 通潤 (Tōngrùn, 集解)
About the work
A ten-fascicle commentary on KR6n0016 Chéng wéishí lùn by the late-Míng Lotus-Sūtra-and-Yogācāra master 通潤 (Tōngrùn / Yīyǔ 一雨, 1565–1624). The “jíjiě” 集解 (“compiled explanations”) title indicates a synthetic commentary drawing together the Tang Cí’ēn tradition (especially Kuījī’s KR6n0026 shùjì) with Tōngrùn’s own elaborations. Preserved in the Xuzangjing (X50n0821).

Abstract
通潤 is best known for his Lotus Sūtra commentary KR6d0080 Fǎhuá jīng dàkuǎn, but his self-designation as “Master of the Two-Lèngyán [Sūtras]” 二楞主人 indicates that the Lèngyán jīng 楞嚴經 (Śūraṃgama-sūtra) was equally important to him — and through that text, he was inevitably engaged with the consciousness-only doctrine of the Chéng wéishí lùn. The jíjiě is the principal product of this Yogācāra engagement.
The dating bracket adopted (1605–1624) covers Tōngrùn’s mature period, between the publication of his earliest Lotus-related commentaries and his death in 1624. The work belongs to the same late-Míng Yogācāra revival as Míngyù’s KR6n0043 súquán and Wáng Kěntáng’s KR6n0045 zhèngyì, and shares with them the program of restoring Cí’ēn doctrinal study in late-Míng Buddhism.
The jíjiě is somewhat more eclectic than the other late-Míng commentaries on T1585: Tōngrùn brings to the Chéng wéishí lùn the same broad-ranging late-Míng synthesis that characterises his Lotus-Sūtra and Śūraṃgama work, including significant Tiāntái-doctrinal material that the strictly Cí’ēn commentaries (e.g. Míngyù’s) keep at arm’s length.
