About the work
Eight-juan supplementary hòulù 後錄 of Yězhú Fúhuì 福慧 嵩山野竹福慧 (Sìchuān → Yúnnán mission-master, see person-note for full biography). Continues the 14-juan qiánlù KR6q0438 《嵩山野竹禪師錄》 (J29 B224, cut 1665) which had covered Fúhuì’s nine-abbacy Yúnnán mission through the mid-1660s. This 後錄 covers the post-1665 period and the additional Yúnnán Dàlǐ Bīnchuānzhōu Jīzúshān 雞足山 ministry begun in 康熙十年 11/15 = 1671/12/15. Compiled by sìfǎ ménrén Hóngxī 洪希 (then abbot of Jīzúshān Dàjuésì 大覺寺) with co-compiler Guǎngzhì 廣智 (abbot of Jīzúshān Shízhōngsì 石鐘寺). Front-preface by the prominent late-Míng / early-Qīng official Gōng Dǐngzī 龔鼎孳 (1615–1673), dated 康熙十一年壬子孟冬 = 1672/11, with extensive titulary listing his offices through 戶刑二部尚書 / 都察院 zuǒdū yùshǐ. Printed as Jiāxīng Canon J33 B284.
Abstract
Dating. notBefore = c. 1666 (immediately post-the qián-lù cutoff at 乙巳 = 1665). notAfter = 1672 (Gōng Dǐng-zī preface). The earliest dated event in the text is the 康熙十年 11/15 = 1671/12/15 entry-sermon at Jī-zú-shān Shí-zhōng-sì 雞足山石鐘寺 — a famous Buddhist sacred site (the supposed final-residence of Mahā-Kāśyapa per the Yún-nán tradition). Earlier 1666–71 abbacies in central Yún-nán continue from the qián-lù sequence.
Gōng Dǐngzī’s preface. Gōng (1615–1673), one of the most prominent post-1644 Han officials at the Qīng court, writes from his perspective as having served in 順治 court alongside the Tiāntóng abbot Shānxiǎo Běnxī 山曉本皙. The preface frames Yězhú’s work as continuing the broad Sìchuān (巴渝) Línjì lineage (Mǎshī yǐ huán Dōngshān fùzǐ ér hòu zhì Wòlóng Yǎngshān jí Jīnlíng Yìshàn Hǎizhōu Cígōng fán bā shì jiē zhōng Mín xiù 馬師以還東山父子而後至臥龍仰山及金陵翼善海舟慈公凡八世皆鍾岷秀) — drawing the line from Mǎzǔ Dàoyī through the Sìchuān Línjì series down to the Mìyún → Pòshān SìchuānYúnnán transmission of Fúhuì’s own day. Mentions that Shānxiǎo and Yězhú are 同邑 from Sìchuān, and that Shānxiǎo personally brokered the publication by sending the hòulù to Gōng for prefacing.
Lineage and abbacy. Per the 福慧 note: Pòshān Hǎi-míng → Zì-shuǐ Yuán-liáo → 璧 Shān-huī Bì 山暉璧 → Yě-zhú Fú-huì. The 後錄 documents Fú-huì’s eastward mission-extension from the central-Yún-nán nine-abbacy network of the 前錄 to the Jī-zú-shān sacred-mountain cluster — bringing the Pòshān-line preaching to the Mahā-Kāśyapa pilgrimage site itself. The 1671 entry-sermon’s incense-offering verse names zǔ-shī Jiā-yè zūn-zhě 祖師迦葉尊者 and qián-zhù Jiāng-nán Sū-zhōu-fǔ Shuāng-tǎ Shòu-níng Zhuān-jìng lǎo-héshàng 前住江南蘇州府雙塔壽寧磚鏡老和尚 — the běn-shī 本師 reference invoking Zhuān-jìng 磚鏡 (= 山暉Bì’s hào in some sources, or a parallel teacher).

Other points of interest
- Gōng Dǐngzī as preface-writer. Gōng Dǐngzī (1615–1673), one of the most prominent post-1644 Han loyalist-turned-Qīng officials, was a major late-Míng / early-Qīng cultural figure. His preface here, dated 1672/11 just before his 1673 death, is a late-life composition. Few Chán yǔlù prefaces of the early Qīng carry comparable official-cultural weight.
- Jī-zú-shān as sacred Mahā-Kāśyapa site. The 1671 abbacy entry into the Jī-zú-shān cluster (Shí-zhōng-sì, Dà-jué-sì) is significant: by tradition Jī-zú-shān is the site of Mahā-Kāśyapa’s final samādhi-retreat. Yě-zhú’s installation as abbot of the principal sacred-mountain monasteries makes him institutionally one of the most senior Chán teachers in southwestern China by the early 1670s.
- Wú Sān-guì-period frontier ministry. Yězhú’s Yúnnán ministry operated under the Wú Sānguì 吳三桂 Píngxī Wáng administration (1660–73) — a politically delicate position making the 1672 Gōng Dǐngzī (Beijing-based central-government official) preface particularly noteworthy as a Qīng-court endorsement of the frontier mission just before the 1673 outbreak of the Three-Feudatories rebellion.
