Abstract

Authorship. Per the 宗堅 note and the Qián Guāngxiù preface: native of Qíyáng 蘄陽 (Húběi); ministry in Yúnnán’s Nánzhào 南詔 region. Eventually succeeded Yězhú Fúhuì at the Yúnnánfǔ Sōngshān 雲南府嵩山 seat (jì xí Sōngshān 繼席嵩山) — the senior Yúnnán Pòshān-line abbacy.

Dating. notBefore = 1665 (conservative bound corresponding to the 1665 cutoff of Fúhuì’s qiánlù KR6q0438 and the start of Bùlín’s documented preaching career as Fúhuì’s heir). notAfter = 1674 (Qián Guāngxiù preface). The volume covers the Lùnán Dōushuài abbacy (the Yúnnán Lùnánzhōu seat from which the title derives) and post-Fú-huì succession at Sōngshān.

Lineage. Pòshān Hǎimíng → Zìshuǐ Yuánliáo → Shānhuī Bì 山暉璧 → Yězhú Fúhuì → Bùlín Zōngjiān. The Qián Guāngxiù preface emphasizes Bùlín’s claim to the broader SòngMíng Línjì pedigree: fù Yángqí ér zǔ Shíshuāng 父楊岐而祖石霜 (his “father” is Yángqí, his “grandfather” Shíshuāng) — invoking the two seminal Línjì-school figures Yángqí Fānghuì 楊岐方會 (992–1049) and Shíshuāng Chǔyuán 石霜楚圓 (986–1039) at the foundation of the Yángqí branch.

Wú Sān-guì-period frontier ministry. Bùlín’s documented Yúnnán ministry coincides exactly with the Wú Sānguì 吳三桂 Píngxī Wáng administration in Yúnnán (1660–73), making the volume a witness to the late-1660s and early-1670s Yúnnán Chán mission-network on the eve of the 1673 Three-Feudatories rebellion outbreak. Qián’s preface, dated just one day before the lunar new year of 甲寅 = 1674, was composed in the immediate aftermath of the rebellion’s outbreak (1673/11) — making it one of very few Yún-nán-related prefaces composed during the early phase of the war.
