Mid-Northern-Sòng historian and Hànshū specialist, zì Gòngfù 貢父, hào Gōngfēi 公非, of Xīnyú 新喻 (Jiāngxī, family registered at Pēngchéng). Younger brother of Liú Chǎng 劉敞; jìnshì of Qìnglì 6 / 1046 (the same examination as his brother). The principal Hànshū / Sānguó historian of his generation: assigned by Sīmǎ Guāng 司馬光 to draft the entire Hàn and Sānguó portion of the Zīzhì tōngjiàn during the 1067–1085 compilation. Refused to enforce the Xīníng New Policies and was demoted to monitor of the Héngzhōu salt warehouses; restored under Zhézōng as zhī Xiāngzhōu, Mìshū shǎojiān, finally Zhōngshū shèrén. Author of the DōngHàn kānwù 東漢刊誤 (errata to the Hòu Hànshū; survives only as appendix to the Běijiānběn Hòu Hànshū); the Hànguān yí 漢官儀; the Wǔdài chūnqiū; and the influential Zhōngshān shīhuà 中山詩話 KR4j0021. Died Yuányòu 4 / 1089 age 67. Surviving collection: Péngchéng jí KR4d0045 (40 juǎn, Sìkù reconstitution from Yǒnglè dàdiǎn against the original 50-juǎn recension). The catalog meta gives 1022–1088, which is followed in the catalog frontmatter; CBDB and Sòngshǐ support 1023–1089 — the discrepancy is one suì.
