Shèng-yǒu 勝友 (Skt. Viśākha / Viśesamitra; honorific 尊者 zūn-zhě “venerable”, dates uncertain — probably 6th–7th c.) is the Indian Mūlasarvāstivāda vinayācārya credited with compiling the Gēnběn sàpóduō-bù lǜ-shè 根本薩婆多部律攝 (KR6k0039, T24n1458) — a fourteen-fascicle systematic compendium (saṃgraha) of the Mūlasarvāstivāda Vinaya. The work was translated by Yìjìng (義淨) at Cháng-ān in the early 8th century. Some sources (Bareau 1955) identify Viśākha with the Yogācāra commentator of the Madhyamakahṛdaya of the same name; the identification is uncertain but plausible given Viśākha’s known dual interest in Vinaya and abhidharma. He is to be distinguished from the 尊者毘舍佉 (毘舍佉) credited with the verse-Vinaya KR6k0040 — Yìjìng treats them as the same person, but his 毘舍佉 may transliterate the Sanskrit Viśākha whereas his 勝友 translates the same name; the two attributions therefore probably refer to the same Indian author.
