Jūdǐng 居頂
Early-Míng Yángqí-branch Línjì Chán master, hào Yuán-jí 圓極, self-style Yuán-ān-shēng 圓庵生. Dàjiàn-下第 24 世 dharma-heir of 無慍 Shù-zhōng Wú-yùn (1309–1386, KR6q0349). Native of Huáng-yán 黃巖 (Tái-zhōu), lay surname Chén 陳 (same lay surname as his teacher). Entered the village Jìng-ān-sì 淨安寺 as a shā-mí at fifteen; studied the Śūraṃgama 楞嚴 and Complete Enlightenment 圓覺 sūtras under Dí-yuán Yǔ 迪元瑀; was ordained under Wú-yùn when the latter became abbot of Ruì-yán, and after Wú-yùn’s retirement accompanied him to Cí-xī Yǒng-lè 永樂 and, from Hóng-wǔ 17 (1384), to Cuì-shān 翠山 in Níng-bō, where Jū-dǐng was his care-taker until his death in 1386.
Held three abbacies in his own right: Yínxiàn Cuìshān 鄞縣翠山 (from Hóngwǔ 16 / 1383), Jīnhuá Shuānglínsì 金華雙林寺, and — after being appointed Zuǒjiǎngjīng 左講經 of the Míng Sēnglùsī 僧錄司 in Hóngwǔ 29 (1396) — Shùntiān Línggǔsì 順天靈谷寺, where he was subsequently promoted to Zuǒchǎnjiào 左闡教. Died on the 2nd of the 2nd month of Yǒnglè 2 (21 March 1404). Principal editor of Wúyùn’s yǔlù (KR6q0349); author of the 30-juan Xùchuándēnglù 續傳燈錄 (actually Zēngjí Xùchuándēnglù 增集續傳燈錄, X83 n1574 — one of the most important Míng-compiled lamp-histories) and the 10-juan Yuánān jí 圓庵集.
