Zhēnchuán 真傳, hào Mìyìn 密印 (“Secret Seal”). Born 天啟乙丑 6/28 = 1625-07-31 Gregorian; alive in 康熙戊午 = 1678 at age 54. Native of Xùzhōufǔ 敘州府 (SìchuānNán Shǔnán); lay surname Lǐ 李.
Lineage. LínjìYángqí dharma-heir of Língyǐn Yìnwén 靈隱印文 (in turn dharma-heir of Pòshān Hǎimíng 海明) — i.e., dharma-grandson of Pòshān. Listed alongside Cāngbì Míngruì 蒼璧明睿, Dàtóng Hérén 大同合仁, Tiānrú Qīngjué 天如清覺, Méixī Fúdù 梅溪福度 etc. as one of fourteen named fǎsì of Yìnwén.
Formation. Childhood vegetarian; observed life as illusory; on parents’ deaths went to Guānyīndòng 觀音洞 to take the cloth; awakening on hearing a bell during night-walking moonlit jīngxíng 經行. Full precepts under Yǔsōng héshàng 語嵩和尚; jìbié 記莂 from Língyǐn Yìnwén 靈隱文.
Three abbacies. (i) Húguǎng Huìtóng Huílóng Chányuàn 湖廣會同迴龍禪院; (ii) Qíshān Yǒngxīng Chánsì 旗山永興禪寺; (iii) Qiányáng Shèngjuésì 黔陽勝覺寺 — the long-tenure 30+ year seat at Guǎngfúshān 廣福山 (Húnán / Guìzhōu border, Qiányáng) whence the title-form Mìyìn derives. Per the KR6q0489 preface: fēixī Chǔnán, zī yù Guǎngfúshān zhě sānshí yú nián yǐ 飛錫楚南茲寓廣福山者三十餘年矣.
