Late-Qīng / early-Republican physician of Liúyáng 瀏陽, eastern Húnán; courtesy name 潤齊 Rùnqí, hào 悟真山人 Wùzhēn shānrén. Fifth-generation descendant of an eighteenth-century 神醫 shényī ancestor 諱翯公 huì Hègōng who is recorded as having received a 乾隆朝 imperial-bestowed plaque “Divine Doctor” 神醫 during the JiāngHuái 江淮 plague of his time and whose unpublished family medical compendium 《醫學一貫》 was transmitted within the袁 family for five generations. Studied under his fellow-villager Liú Xīncén 劉薪岑, then performed jūnshì yóu 軍事遊 (military advisory service) in 嶺南 (GuǎngdōngGuǎngxī), where he engaged Western medicine critically. Collaborated with 歐陽藹臣 Ōuyáng Ǎichén on laryngology. In winter jǐyǒu 己酉 / 1909 retired to Jīnlíng (Nanjing); in mid-summer Xuāntǒng 3 / xīnhài / 1911 completed and printed KR3em034 Hóukē jīnyuè quánshū 喉科金鑰全書 with sponsoring prefaces by 陸潤庠 and 勞乃宣.
