Dàolè 道樂, zì Bùyàn 不厭 (“Without Surfeit”), often referred to as Huáyán BùyànLè 華嚴不厭樂 from his principal abbacy. LínjìYángqí dharma-heir of Shèngkě Déyù 聖可德玉 (1628–1701) — the Guìzhōu / Sìchuān regional patriarch in the Mǐnshù 敏樹 sub-line. Born 明崇禎庚辰 8/23 子時 = 1640-10-08 Gregorian; death year unknown — was 51 in 康熙庚午 = 1690, last fixed datum is the 1693 preface to his yǔlù. Native of Sīnán Yìnjiāng 思南印江 (Guìzhōu); lay surname Yáng 楊.
Formation. Married at 13 (pìn jù 聘聚 = engagement / marriage), widowed of his father at 27, undertook a 29-year fast, took tonsure at 31 under Mǐnshù Rúxiāng 敏樹如相. Studied with Huáyán Shèngkě 華嚴聖可 — questioned about the Dàtōng Zhìshèng Fó 大通智勝佛 gōngàn, was struck so heavily on the head that “blood ran and I began to know pain.” 丙辰 = 1676 spring returned to Guìzhōu province. Held an interim abbacy at Xìnglóngwèi Lóngshānsì 興隆衛龍山寺 (entered 丙辰九月 = 1676-10) for three years before war forced him to retreat to Gāotūnshān 高坉山. 乙丑春 = 1685 spring at Lúzhōu 瀘州 (Sìchuān) sought out Shèngkě again and received fùfǎ.
Abbacies. Xìnglóngwèi Lóngshānsì 興隆衛龍山寺 (1676), Zūnyì Yùquánsì 遵義玉泉寺 (entered 甲子春 = 1684), Chóngqìng Huáyán chányuàn 重慶府華嚴禪院 (post-1685, the principal abbacy giving him his sobriquet).
Disciples. Eleven fǎsì are listed in the yǔlù’s yìnjì 印偈, including Cíjì Dépǔ 慈濟德普 德普 (compiler of the yǔlù), Huìyī Pǔdìng 慧一普定, and Sōngméi Chāohuì 松梅超慧.
