Déyù 德玉 (Shèngkě Déyù 聖可德玉)
Early-Qīng Chán master of Sichuan. Hào Shèngkě 聖可 (“Saintly-Permissible”); also Yìnyù 印玉 (“Seal-Jade”), Huáyán lǎorén 華嚴老人 (“Old-Man of Huáyán”), Shèngkě dàshī 聖可大師. Native of Yíngshān 營山 (Sichuan). Lifedates 1628/8/12 – 1701/02 (Chóngzhēn 1/7/13 per Huáyánsì xù zhì 華嚴寺續志 juan 2; death in Kāngxī 40 = 1701/1702 per Yí nián lù 疑年錄 p. 461, age 73).
Abbot of Huáyánsì 華嚴寺 in Sichuan, one of the major Qīng-era regional Buddhist monastic centres.
Produced multiple shùn zhū 順硃 (“following red-marking”) commentaries — a distinctive Qīng-Buddhist commentary-format using red-ink/black-ink typesetting conventions:
- Chánlín bǎoxùn shùn zhū 禪林寶訓順硃 KR6q0156 (X64 n1265) — four-juan commentary on the Chánlín bǎoxùn KR6q0099.
- Dào dé jīng shùn zhū 道德經順硃 KR6q0227 (J36 B351) — two-juan commentary on Lǎozǐ.
Déyù represents a distinct Qīng-era pattern of Chán-master-as-text-commentator across both Buddhist canonical texts (the Chánlín bǎoxùn) and classical Chinese philosophical classics (the Dào dé jīng), paralleling the integrative-doctrinal project of Ǒuyì Zhìxù and Liángtíng Jìngtǐng.
