Dáwèi 達位, zì Shànquán 善權 (“Skillful Means”); often referred to as Sōngkuī Shànquán 松巋善權. LínjìYángqí dharma-heir of Yuèchuáng Chèliǎo 月幢徹了 (1614–1667). Born 明萬曆戊午九月廿三日午時 = 1619-10-29 (the catalog era says 戊午 = 1618 but that doesn’t match Wànlì 47; the calendar reconciliation gives 1619); died 康熙甲子仲秋廿三 = 1684-10-01, age 67, sēnglà 45. Native of Chǔběi 楚北 (Húběi); lay surname Qú 瞿.
Formation. From birth attracted to Buddhist images; on hearing the Lotus Sūtra line “yǒu zhì ruò wén zé néng xìnjiě” 有智若聞則能信解 (those with wisdom on hearing can understand by faith), the urge to leave the world arose. Amid the dynastic chaos abandoned home and went to Guìzhōu — at Ānshùn Guānyīndòng 安順觀音硐 took tonsure and shāmí precepts under Tàixū 太虛和尚. Two years later traveled south to Hánguāng 含光和尚 for full ordination, given the fùmǔ wèi shēng qián 父母未生前 gōngàn. Then to Yuèchuáng 月幢和尚 — one day during jīngxíng, fell asleep and collapsed; on awaking felt his body relax horizontally, and his doubt-cluster melted “like setting down a hundred-jīn load.” Reported to Yuèchuáng and received final sealing.
Abbacies (three). Tàipíng Wànshòu 太平萬壽; Sōngkuī Pǔguāngsì 松巋普光寺 (the principal seat); Cíyún Pǔxiángsì 慈雲普祥寺.
Disciples. Ten fǎsì including Shànyī Rúchún 如純 (cf. KR6q0580), Tiānyī Dàyuè 大悅 (cf. KR6q0582), Pǔdù Dàhǎi 普渡大海, Xūé Dàzhào 虗峨大照. Plus five lay-disciples including Wáng Qīnghuá 王青華, Lóng Fúshì 龍孚世.
