Lǚ was a key figure in the suppression of the 1129 Miáo Fǔ 苗傅 / Liú Zhèngyàn 劉正彥 Jiànyán mutiny: with Zhāng Jùn 張浚 he raised the loyalist forces and stabilised Gāozōng’s throne. As prime minister he was zhuānsì zìyòng (autocratic and self-willed) — energetically suppressing the Yuányòu faction (Lǐ Gāng 李綱, Lǐ Guāng) and creating the yuèzhuāngqián 月樁錢 fiscal levy that became a long-term burden on the Southeast.
