Hánshān 寒山
Táng-era Chán-Daoist eccentric and poet, associated with Mount Tiāntái 天臺 and the figure of Shídé 拾得. Author (or namesake-source) of the celebrated Hánshānzǐ shī jí 寒山子詩集 — a collection of gnomic verse that became a touchstone of Chinese Chán-poetic tradition. Lifedates uncertain (variously placed in the 7th–9th centuries). The traditional preface attached to his poems was supplied by the Táng official Lǘqiū Yìn 閭丘胤.
