Late-Míng / early-Qīng lay Buddhist and scholar. Zì Jìnghán 靜涵 (“Quiet-Pool”); hào Dàyuán jūshì 大圓居士 (“Great-Perfection Layman”). Lifedates 1589 – 1669/10/24 (died Kāngxī 8 / 9 [ninth-month-end], age 81, per Wǔ dēng quán shū 五燈全書 juan 171).
Principal Kanripo contributions:
- Preface, compiler-editor, and publication-promoter of the Sòng gǔ hé xiǎng jí 頌古合響集 KR6q0204 — the collection of harmonizing Chán verse-commentaries by the nuns Miàozhàn Zǒngdàorén 玅湛總道人 and Língruì Fúānzhǔ 靈瑞符菴主 under 弘儲 Tuìwēng Hóngchǔ at Língyánsì.
- Front-preface to KR6q0476 《燮雲璣禪師國清無畏堂語錄》 — supporting Xièyún Jìjī 濟璣 燮雲濟璣 (d. 1648), a fellow heir of Hóngchǔ and the abbot of Tiāntái Guóqīngsì.
His lay-Buddhist name Dàyuán jūshì 大圓居士 aligns him with the broader lay-Chán practice-community of his period; his preface-writing for the nuns’ collection represents an important act of institutional endorsement for women’s Chán literary production.
