Mid-Míng Grand Secretary, statesman, poet, and the principal voice of the Cháyīng 茶陵 poetic school; native of Cháyīng 茶陵 in Húnán. Zì Bīnzhī 賓之; hào Xīyá 西涯; posthumous name Wénzhèng 文正. Took the jìnshì in Tiānshùn 8 (1464); served continuously in the Hanlin Academy and Cabinet, rising to Senior Grand Secretary in 1505 and serving through the turbulent years of the Liú Jǐn 劉瑾 ascendancy (1505–10), retiring 1512. As chief director of the Zhèngdé-period revision he supervised the final publication of the Hóngzhì Míng Huìdiǎn 明會典 (KR2m0010) in 1509. His literary collection is the Huáilù táng jí 懷麓堂集 (in Sìkù, KR4d). His poetic theory, codified in the Huáilù táng shīhuà 懷麓堂詩話, set the agenda for early-Míng tonal-prosody discussion. He is the central transitional figure between the early-Míng Táigé style and the high-Míng Archaists.
