Early-Yuán Quánzhēn 全真 master and major inner-alchemy theorist, hào Qīngān 清庵 or Yíngchánzǐ 瑩蟾子 (d. 1306). Founder of the Quánzhēn “Central Branch” (Zhōngpài 中派) that sought doctrinal synthesis between the Nánzōng 南宗 and Běizōng 北宗. One of the most prolific Daozang commentators of the late thirteenth century. Principal works in the Daoist canon:
- Tàishàng shēngxuán xiāozāi hùmìng miàojīng zhù (DZ 102) — inner-alchemy commentary on DZ 19.
- Tàishàng dàtōng jīng zhù (DZ 106) — commentary on DZ 327.
- Wúshàng chìwén dònggǔ zhēnjīng zhù (DZ 108) — commentary on the Chìwén dònggǔ scripture.
- Zhōnghé jí 中和集 (DZ 249) — collection of sermons and verses, his principal inner-alchemy theoretical work.
- Qīngjìng jīng zhù 清靜經註 (DZ 771).
- Tàishàng lǎojūn shuō chángqīngjìng jīng zhù 太上老君說常清靜經註.
Lǐ’s interpretive method deploys Neo-Confucian tǐ/yòng 體/用 dialectics and Mahāyāna Buddhist prajñāpāramitā doctrinal categories alongside classical Daoist inner-alchemical vocabulary — producing a remarkable sānjiào 三教 (“Three-Teachings”) synthesis that represents the most philosophically mature inner-alchemical exegesis of his generation.
