Yú Zhíxī 虞執西
A late-Míng / early-Qīng lay-Buddhist scholar of the Yúnqī Zhūhóng 雲棲袾宏 袾宏 circle, identified in the colophons of his work as a jūshì 居士 (“layman”) and devotee of Yúnqī. His exact lifedates and biographical details are not preserved in detail. He collaborated with 嚴培西 Yán Péixī 嚴培西 on the compilation of the 《雲棲淨土彙語》 Yúnqī jìngtǔ huìyǔ KR6p0089 — an anthology of Yúnqī Zhūhóng’s Pure Land sayings collated from across his prose corpus. The compilation is one of the principal early-Qīng anthologies of Yúnqī’s Pure Land teaching and is part of the broader effort by the Yúnqī lay-Buddhist circle to consolidate and transmit the master’s intellectual legacy after his death in 1615. Beyond this work no substantial biographical record survives.
