Wànfēng Tóngzhēn chánshī yǔlù 萬峰童真禪師語錄
Recorded Sayings of Chán Master Tóng-zhēn of Wàn-fēng by 至善 (說), 德林 (記)
Six-juan yǔlù (DILA: 5 juan) of Wànfēng Tóngzhēn Zhìshàn 至善 萬峰童真至善 (lifedates unknown, active 1654–1678+), Línjì 大慧 派 dharma-heir of Qìngzhōng Tiěbì Huìjī 慶忠鐵壁慧機 (1608–1663) — thus a co-disciple of 燈炳 (cf. KR6q0554) and 玄億 (cf. KR6q0555) in the Sìchuān Jùyún 聚雲 sub-line. Native of Yúzhōu Jiāngjīn 渝州江津 (Sìchuān), lay surname Jiāng 江. Recorded by his attendant Délín 德林 jì.
The yǔlù documents two principal Húběi abbacies: Húguǎng Déānfǔ Xiàogǎnxiàn Jiǎntáng chányuàn 湖廣德安府孝感縣簡堂禪院 (Húběi); and Déānfǔ Xiàogǎnxiàn Gāofēng chányuàn 德安府孝感縣高峰禪院 (formal entry 康熙十七年戊午閏三月十二日 = 1678). Earlier (康熙七年 = 1668) at Èzhōu Dàbiéshān Wòyúnān 鄂州大別山臥雲庵 (WǔHàn region) — the same site contemporaneously held by 玄億. notBefore = 1666 (康熙丙午, opening of fǎ); notAfter = 1678 (Gāofēngyuàn entry; printing follows). Other points of interest
KR6q0554, KR6q0555, and KR6q0556 form a triple set of yǔlù by three dharma-brothers under Qìngzhōng Tiěbì Huìjī in the Sìchuān Jùyún sub-line, all of whom moved east from Sìchuān to Húběi during or after the post-Sānfān-luàn (after 1681) reconstruction era. The 趙松雪十六羅漢圖 zhēnzàn in juan 2 is a notable instance of late-Yuán painter Zhào Mèngfǔ 趙孟頫’s famous Sixteen Arhats iconography being incorporated into mid-Qīng monastic image-encomia practice — Zhìshàn must have had access to a copy of the original at one of his Húběi monasteries.
