Jīngāngjīng zàn jí (nǐ) 金剛經讚集(擬)

Collected Vajracchedikā Encomia (Recension I, Witness 2 — provisionally titled) anonymous Chinese composition; critical edition by 達照 (整理)

About the work

The second early-type witness of the Jīngāngjīng zàn cycle — see KR6v0093 for full discussion. The (nǐ) 擬 marker in the title indicates that this manuscript witness lacks an extant head- or tail-cartouche, and the editorial title is provisional.

Abstract

KR6v0094 prints from Russian Dūnhuáng 弗 323 (Institute of Oriental Manuscripts, St. Petersburg) — head and tail damaged, no original title. The witness is distinctive in that it integrates the 50-verse zàn-cycle with the Vajracchedikā (Kumārajīva) text passage by passage, marking each zàn’s scriptural basis. It also adds a list of the shí-bā zhù-chù 十八住處 (“eighteen abiding-stations”) — the third yì-jù 義句 of Asaṅga’s seven yì-jù doctrinal scheme, encompassing the eighteen stages from initial bodhicitta-arising to perfect Buddhahood. 323 is therefore the most fully realised Type-I witness. The composition window inherits from the cluster: early-to-mid Táng.
