Fǎtōng 法通 (DILA-standardized as Tōngfǎ 通法; the catalog meta of KR6q0462 uses the reversed-character form 法通), hào Bùhuì 不會 (“Not-Knowing”). Born 天啟元年辛酉 10/22 辰時 = 1621-12-04 Gregorian; native of Nánchōng 南充 (Sìchuān); lay surname Yáng 楊. LínjìYángqí Yáng-qí-school dharma-heir of Pòshān Hǎimíng 海明 破山海明 (1597–1666) at Shuāngguìsì 雙桂寺.
Formation. At 16 secretly fled home to Péngxī Zhìlínsì 蓬溪智林寺 to take up monastic life; returned when his mother nearly starved on his absence. Met Tiānyǐn dàshī 天隱大師 who set him on the wànfǎ guīyī yī guī héchù 萬法歸一一歸何處 gōngàn. After both parents’ deaths, formally tonsured at age 26 (= 1646) under Xīngchū fǎshī 惺初法師. Left Sìchuān for Hànshàng 漢上 (Húběi) and a four-year shānjū under Shìyě Jié héshàng 侍埜詰和尚, where he received full precepts. Pilgrimage circuit: Jìngshān Fèiyǐn Tōngróng 徑山費隱通容; Tiānjiè Juélàng Dàoshèng 道盛 天界覺浪道盛; Tiāntóng Mùchén Dàomín 道忞 天童木陳道忞. Final transmission from Shuāngguì Pòshān Hǎimíng 海明 in c. 1666.
Bùhuì phase. Age 45 (1666, coinciding with Pòshān’s death-year): nì jì Shèjiāng Qīngguǒ Chányuàn 匿跡射江清果禪院 — retreated to Qīngguǒ Chányuàn 清果禪院 in Shèjiāng 射江 (Sìchuān). The KR6q0462 kāitáng shū 開堂疏 confirms this Qīngguǒ residence with two preceding shū invitation-petitions: the first by lay-officials and xiāngshēn dated 康熙十年十月初一日 = 1671-11-02 Gregorian; the second by lay-Chán fǎdìzǐ circles. Death-date and shìshòu not located.
