Dēngbǐng 燈炳, zì Héngshān 衡山 (also Chōnggǔ 沖谷); often referred to as Qìngyún Bǐng 慶雲炳 from his second abbacy. Línjì 大慧 派 dharma-heir of Qìngzhōng Tiěbì Huìjī 慶忠鐵壁慧機 (in the Sìchuān Jùyún 聚雲 sub-line). Born 明萬曆辛亥四月十一日子時 = 1611-05-22 Gregorian; died 庚申六月十八日 = 1680-07-13, age 70. Native of Héjiāng 合江 (Sìchuān).
Formation. As a youth visited the elder Jùyún 聚雲老人 = Jùyún Chuīwàn 聚雲吹萬 at Bǎofēng 寶峰. After Jùyún’s death sought instruction from Qìngzhōng 慶忠 at Zhǐjiāng 枳江; became dìyī zuò (head monk) under him.
Abbacies (two). Kuízhōufǔ Shízhù Jíxiáng chánsì 夔州府石砫吉祥禪寺 (entered 順治壬辰七月望日 = 1652-08-19 on the invitation of patron Sū Màoyǔ 蘇茂宇 of 祇園檀越); Qìngyún chánsì 慶雲禪寺 (the second seat giving him his sobriquet Qìngyún Bǐng).
Disciples. Major fǎsì / lineage-figures include Biéān 別菴和尚 (active in Pǔtuó 普陀); the third-generation grandson Jǐhuàn chánrén 几幻禪人 carried the manuscript south for engraving. Fǎsūn compiler Zōngwèi 宗位.
Work. KR6q0554 《衡山禪師語錄》 1 juan, J39 B438, compiled by fǎsūn Zōngwèi 宗位 biān; with two prefaces — by 龍池後裔閩莆 Chāoyuán 超源 (Mǐnpǔ Dànyá) dated 康熙乙亥王春 = 1695 spring; and by Lán Lǐ 藍理 (1649–1720), then zhènshǒu Zhèjiāng děngchù dìfāng Dìnghǎi zǒngbīngguān zuǒ dūdū (military commander of Dìnghǎi, Zhèjiāng), dated 康熙丙子孟春月上浣 = 1696 lunar 1.
