Mǎzǔ Dàoyī 馬祖道一

Mǎzǔ Dàoyī 馬祖道一 (709–788), Táng Chán master, central founder of the Hóngzhōu school 洪州宗 and dharma-grandfather of the line leading through 懷海 Bǎizhàng Huáihǎi and 希運 Huángbò Xīyùn to 義玄 Línjì Yìxuán; lineally the dharma-heir of Nányuè Huáiràng 南嶽懷讓 and through him of 惠能 Huìnéng.
