Ngawang Tashi / Āwàng Zhāshí 阿旺扎什 (Qīng dynasty; lifedates unknown) — Tibetan-Chinese translator-monk of the Qīng court, contemporary with Gönpojab (工布查布). Active in the imperial Tibetan-Buddhist translation establishment under the Yongzheng or early Qiánlóng emperors. His extant translations in the Taishō:
- Xiū Yàoshī yíguǐ bùtán fǎ 修藥師儀軌布壇法 (KR6j0100, T19n0928) — Method of Mandala-Construction for the Medicine Buddha Practice (a bùtán fǎ “spreading-the-altar method” supplement to Gönpojab’s KR6j0099 and the broader Yàoshī Esoteric corpus).
- Bái jiùdù fómǔ zàn 白救度佛母讚 (T20n1109) — verse-praise of Sitatārā (White Tārā), one of the principal Tibetan-Esoteric devotional deities.
His translations are notable as 補譯 bǔyì (“supplementary translation”) — i.e., translations made to fill specific gaps in the existing Chinese canon by translating Tibetan-canon materials not previously rendered into Chinese. Like Gönpojab, he represents the Qīng-court institutional integration of Tibetan Buddhism into the Chinese-language Buddhist tradition.
