Rèn Yuān 任淵 (d. 1144, Zǐyuān 子淵, hào Tiānshè 天社 — after the Tiānshèshān mountain in Xīnjīn 新津), of Xīnjīn (Sìchuān). Shàoxīng 1 / 1131 yǐchǒu wényì lèishì yú yǒusī dìyī — i.e. ranked first in the literary-arts special category in the Sìchuān regional examination of 1131. Held office through Tóngchuān 潼川 xiàn (judicial commissioner). The principal Southern-Sòng zhùjiā (annotator) of the Jiāngxī-school poets: composed both the Shāngǔ Nèijí shīzhù 山谷內集詩注 KR4d0085 (the principal annotated edition of Huáng Tíngjiān 黃庭堅 黃庭堅’s post-Yuánfēng poetry, in 20 juǎn with embedded niánpǔ) and the Hòushān shīzhù 後山詩注 KR4d0088 (the annotated edition of Chén Shīdào 陳師道 陳師道’s poetry, in 12 juǎn) — together the foundational Sòng Jiāngxī-school annotation pair. Also composed the Shāngǔ jīnghuá lù 山谷精華錄 in 6 juǎn shīfùmíngzàn + 2 juǎn záwén (a selective annotated edition of Huáng Tíngjiān; original lost; what circulates under that title is a Míng-period forgery). The Yuánxù by Xǔ Yǐn 許尹 of Póyáng (the HuángChén shīzhù xù) — preserved at the head of the Sìkù recension of KR4d0085 — is the principal external attestation of Rèn Yuān’s annotation method.
