Hào 昊 (variant 旲), zì Huīzhōu 暉洲 (also written 暉州); often referred to as Huīzhōu Hào 暉洲昊 or Wànshàn Huīzhōu 萬善暉洲. LínjìYángqí dharma-heir of Liǎozōng Chāojiàn 了宗超見 (1614–1688) of Pánshān 盤山. Lifedates unknown — active 1670s–1699+. Native of Luánzhōu Lètíng 灤州樂亭 (modern Hébei, on the road to Manchuria); lay surname Liú 劉.
Formation. Vegetarian even in the womb; tranquil from birth. At 11 his mother died and his father sent him to Hánjiā Dàoxiǎokōng 韓家道曉空 to take tonsure. At 18 he entered bìguān and read the Lotus Sūtra devoutly; at the Ānlèxíngpǐn 安樂行品 verse “Fózǐ zhù cǐ dì jí shì Fó shòuyòng” (the Buddha-son who dwells here is using what the Buddha used) doubt suddenly arose. Went to Pánshān to Liǎozōng with his question; received the staff. With his doubt deepening he received final fùfǎ and was made shūjì (scribe).
