Chāojiàn 超見, zì Liǎozōng 了宗 (“Penetrating the School”); often referred to as Pánshān Liǎozōng 盤山了宗. LínjìYángqí dharma-heir of Dàbó Xíngqián 乾 (1602–1673, cf. KR6q0584). Born 明萬曆甲寅九月十五日 = 1614-10-17 Gregorian; died 康熙二十七年 = 1688, age 75. Native of Shùntiānfǔ Bǎodǐxiàn 順天府寶坻縣 (Héběi); lay surname Yáng 楊.
Formation. Vegetarian from childhood. After an illness in youth, his parents permitted ordination. Tonsured at Lóng-quán-ān 龍泉菴, took full ordination at Mǐn-zhōng-sì 愍忠寺 (the major Beijing precept-platform), studied scriptures. One day during a Śūraṅgama lecture at the qī chù zhēng xīn, bā huán biàn jiàn 七處徵心八還辯見 passage, suddenly had insight. Went south to cān-fǎng — Tiān-tóng, Xuě-dòu, Tiān-tāi. Returned to study under Dà-bó Xíng-qián 乾 and received final fù-fǎ. Served three years closely.
Abbacies. Began with retreat at Rénshòusì 仁壽寺, then moved to Pánshān shíshì 盤山石室. Then held a sequence of major Héběi abbacies: Nántāi 南臺, Lóngyún 隆阭, Wànshànsì 萬善寺, Zhèngfǎsì 正法寺 (= Pánshān Gǔzhōngpán Zhèngfǎsì, the principal seat), Fàngshēngyuàn 放生院, Pǔdùsì 普渡寺, Guānyīnsì 觀音寺, Rénshèngsì 仁聖寺.
Disciples. Major fǎsì include Huīzhōu Hào 昊 (cf. KR6q0573), Níngyī Xiān 寧一暹, Lǎngkōng Shùn 順 (cf. KR6q0585), Chèxuān Xīng 徹軒惺, plus others.
