Zǔxiù 祖琇

Southern Sòng Chán monk and historian, active in the Shàoxīng and Lóngxīng eras (mid-twelfth century). Exact lifedates not transmitted.

Author of two principal works: the Sēngbǎo zhèngxù zhuàn 僧寶正續傳 (KR6q0041), the seven-juan supplement to Huìhóng’s Chánlín sēngbǎo zhuàn; and the Lóngxīng biānnián tōnglùn 隆興編年通論 (1164), an annalistic Buddhist history covering events from antiquity through the early Southern Sòng. Both are important sources for Northern-to-early-Southern Sòng Chán biographical and historical material.
