Shānghán lùn yì 傷寒論翼

Wings to the Treatise on Cold Damage Disorders by 柯琴 (Kē Qín, Yùnbó 韻伯, fl. Kāngxī 1660s–1680s, 清)

About the work

A two-juan supplement and theoretical companion to 柯琴 Kē Qín’s larger Shānghán lái sū jí 傷寒來蘇集 (KR3ef013) — Kē’s general comprehensive commentary on the Shānghán lùn. The (literally “wings”) presents 13 systematic essays on key doctrinal problems in the cold-damage canon, including the six-channel framework, the yīngwèi 營衛 doctrine, the relation of Shānghán to wēnbìng 溫病, and the pharmacology of the principal canonical formulas. The work is widely read alongside the Lái sū jí as the doctrinal underpinning of Kē Qín’s “channel-pattern” approach.

Abstract

The composition date falls in the same Kāngxī period (ca. 1669–1674) that yielded the Shānghán lái sū jí. Kē Qín, a native of Cíxī 慈溪 (Zhèjiāng) who studied with the 喻昌 Yú Chāng tradition, was one of the most influential Qīng commentators on the Shānghán canon. His distinctive contribution is the systematic re-organization of the Shānghán materials by channel-pattern (證) rather than by 王叔和 Wáng Shūhé’s manuscript-traditional sequence — an organizational principle that has dominated Chinese-medicine pedagogy ever since. The ’s essays argue for this re-organization on doctrinal grounds drawn from the SùwènRè lùn” 熱論 and from Yú Chāng’s earlier doctrinal work, while distancing Kē Qín from Yú on key clinical questions (notably the indication for moxibustion).

This is a commentary on the Shānghán lùn (KR3ef001); the parent text is set in the frontmatter commentedTextid.
