About the work
The Niè-pán jīng shū in 33 fascicles is the great Suí-period Tiāntái commentary on Dà bān niè pán jīng 大般涅槃經 (KR6g0001) by 灌頂 Guàndǐng. Together with Dà bān niè pán jīng xuán yì 大般涅槃經玄義 (KR6g0005, T1765), it constitutes the canonical Tiāntái-school doctrinal apparatus on the Niè-pán jīng. The 33-fascicle scope makes it one of the most substantial single Tiāntái-school commentaries.
Abstract
The bracket adopted here (597–632) reflects Guàndǐng’s mature Tiāntái scholarly activity.
