張仲景 Zhāng Zhòngjǐng

Zhāng Zhòngjǐng 張仲景 (given name Zhāng Jī 張機, c. 150 – c. 219, late 東漢), of Nányáng 南陽 (modern Hénán). The canonical author of the Shānghán zábìng lùn 傷寒雜病論, foundational physician of the shānghán febrile-disease tradition and one of the four great masters (sì dà yīshèng) of Chinese medicine. The transmitted recensions of his work — Shānghán lùn 傷寒論 and Jīnguì yàolüè 金匱要略 — survive through the Northern Sòng editorial reconstitution by 林億 Lín Yì and colleagues. Together they form the core of the fāngjì tradition that organizes Chinese clinical pharmacy down to the present.
