About the work

Twenty-juan zhènglù 正錄 of Jùyún Chuīwàn Guǎngzhēn 廣真 聚雲吹萬廣真 (1582–1639), the principal and most extensive recording of Guǎngzhēn’s preaching. Stands in contrast to the selective 3-juan KR6q0448 《聚雲吹萬真禪師語錄》 (same author, same Canon volume cluster, same preface-hand): the 3-juan B238 is the xuǎnbiān 選編 selection published first, while the 20-juan B239 is the definitive chóngbiān 重編 expansion. Both were compiled by the dharma-grandson Sānshān Dēnglái 燈來 三山燈來 (1614–1685) through Guǎngzhēn’s chief heir Tiěbì Huìjī 慧機 鐵壁慧機. Printed as Jiāxīng Canon J29 B239. Two prefaces: (i) Xióng Rǔxué 熊汝學 (dēngzhào 燈照), 崇禎壬午菊月 = 1642/9 intercalary, essentially identical to the B238 preface; (ii) Shěn Yìwěi 沈奕瑋 of Qiánnán 黔南, Lùyuán xuérén 鹿園學人, 崇禎壬午小春既望 = 1642/10/16 on the Píngshān zhōucì 平山舟次 (river-boat) — a poetically pungent preface insisting on the Línjì / Dàhuì lineage identity and praising the Tiěbì héshàng’s role in the transmission of the Jùyún teaching.

Abstract

Dating. Same dating-window as KR6q0448: notBefore = 1618 (first abbacy at Xiāoxiāng Húdōng Chányuàn); notAfter = 1642 (preface window). The 20-juan structure preserves the full biographical arc through the Jùyúnsì 聚雲寺 founding and the Chóngzhēn 12 (1639/8/28) death-scene at Zhōngzhōu.

Relation to the B238 selection. The B238 close-colophon lìng kè zhènglù shí juan, guǎnglù sānshí zhǒng 另刻正錄十卷廣錄三十種 refers to an earlier (no-longer-surviving) ten-juan state of the zhènglù; B239’s 20 juan represents the final chóngbiān 重編 expansion of that material. The catalog meta for KR6q0449 accordingly records the compiler-function as chóngbiān 重編, distinguishing it from B238 (biān 編).

Shěn Yìwěi’s preface. Shěn (a Guìzhōu literatus) adds doctrinal emphases absent from the Xióng preface: (i) Guǎngzhēn as the Línjì / Dàhuì mid-stream master of the late Míng, invoking Dàhuì Zōnggǎo by name (cǐ bù dú Línjì, Dàhuì qiānnián yījù jí qǐ 此不獨臨濟大慧千年一炬即起); (ii) the critical importance of Guǎngzhēn’s chief heir Tiěbì chánshī 鐵壁禪師 = 慧機 as the preservation-channel for the teaching (bǎoyuè yīlún jìn zài Tiěbì chánshī máokǒng zhōng 寶月一輪近在鐵壁禪師毛孔中); and (iii) the pressing need to print the corpus against corrupted and amateur Chán literature.

Lineage. Identical to KR6q0448. Guǎngzhēn 廣真 (heir of Cháoyáng Yuèmíng Liánchí 朝陽月明聯池) → principal heirs Tiěbì Huìjī 慧機 (cf. KR6q0450, KR6q0451), Wànsōng Sānmù Huìzhī 萬松三目慧芝, Bǎofēng Sānbāzhǎng Tiěméi Huìlì (cf. KR6q0452). The compiler Dēnglái is an heir of Huìjī, hence Guǎngzhēn’s dharma-grandson.
