Zhāng Zhìcōng 張志聰 (1610–1674), Yǐn’ān 隱菴 (hence often 張隱菴), was a Qiántáng 錢塘 physician of the late-Míng / early-Qīng transition and the founder of the Lǚshān jiǎngtáng 侶山講堂, the West-Lake medical academy in which a circle of some forty pupils collectively re-glossed the Huángdì nèijīng and the Zhāng Zhòngjǐng corpus during the 1660s. The “錢塘醫派” or 侶山 school that emerged from Zhāng’s teaching dominated late-Qīng Nèijīng exegesis. His major surviving works are:

  • Huángdì nèijīng Sùwèn jí zhù 黃帝內經素問集註, 9 juan, 1670 (KR3ea008).
  • Huángdì nèijīng Língshū jí zhù 黃帝內經靈樞集註, 9 juan, 1672 (KR3ea025).
  • Shānghán lùn zōng yìn 傷寒論宗印 (1663) and Shānghán lùn jí zhù 傷寒論集註, completed by his pupil Gāo Shìshì 高士宗 after Zhāng’s death.
  • Jīnguì yàoluè jí zhù 金匱要略集註.
  • Běn cǎo chóng yuán 本草崇原 (3 juan, on materia medica, completed posthumously by Gāo Shìshì).

Zhāng’s distinctive doctrinal contribution is a systematic-cosmological reading of the Nèijīng under the rubric of qìhuà 氣化, integrating the wǔyùn liùqì 五運六氣 doctrine across the whole eighty-one pian of the Sùwèn. The original Lǚshān jiǎngtáng print-blocks were destroyed in the Tàipíng wars (1860s) and the text survives via late-Qīng restorations from a handful of Hángzhōu private libraries. The 1610 birth-date follows Pān Qiūchén’s 2009 reconstruction; older biographies give c. 1644.
