Chèshēng 徹生, zì Zhúlàng 竹浪 (“Bamboo-Wave”); often referred to as Qīngchéng Zhúlàng 青城竹浪 from his abbacy at the famous Daoist-Buddhist mountain. LínjìYángqí dharma-heir of Zhàngxuě Tōngzuì 丈雪通醉 (1610–1696) — the major Sìchuān post-Pò-shān regional patriarch. Born 明崇禎甲戌正月二十八日巳時 = 1634-02-25 Gregorian; death year unknown — was 60 at 康熙癸酉 = 1693. Native of Chuāndōng Dìngyuǎn 川東定遠 (Sìchuān); lay surname Wáng 王.
Formation. Tonsured at 22 (乙未 = 1655) at Róngchāngxiàn Luóhànsì 榮昌縣羅漢寺 under Yǒuyú 有餘師. At 24 (丁酉冬 = 1657 winter) took shāmí precepts at Lúzhōu Fāngshān Yúnfēngsì 瀘州方山雲峰寺 under Tǐzōng 體宗和尚. 戊戌 = 1658 at the dānchí (red-painted altar steps) forgot the time of an incense errand; the moon emerged from a mountain hollow, and “in one glance everything was clear, his whole body relaxed as if a heavy load were set down” — sudden insight. Took full ordination at Yúnfēngsì later that winter. Sequential cān-fǎng under Zǐzhī 紫芝 and Dànzhú 淡竹 etc., each producing jīyuán. Final fùfǎ at Zhāojuésì 昭覺寺 under Zhàngxuě.
Abbacies. Qīng-chéng-shān Fèng-lín-sì 青城山鳳林寺 (Sì-chuān, his principal seat where he read the Tripiṭaka in three full passes); 昭覺寺 Zhāo-jué-sì (Chéng-dū — succeeded Zhàng-xuě here in 辛酉 = 1681).
Disciples. Eleven fǎsì listed in the yǔlù, including Yìyún Rúpéng 翼雲如鵬 如鵬 (compiler of his yǔlù), Zhèngguǒ Liǎoyīn 正果了因, Shàoméi Zhēnruì 紹梅真瑞.
Editorial work. 康熙癸酉冬 = 1693 winter, at his teacher’s command, traveled east to Jiā-hé 嘉禾 (Jiā-xīng) to engrave 《錦江禪燈》 Jǐn-jiāng chán-dēng (X85 n1590) — the major Sì-chuān-region Chán biographical anthology compiled by Zhàng-xuě’s earlier disciples and consolidated under his direction — and to deposit the blocks at Léng-yán-sì 楞嚴寺 流通 alongside the official Pǔ-jì-tánɡ Léng-yán-bǎn Tripiṭaka catalog.
Work. KR6q0544 《青城竹浪生禪師語錄》 7 juan, J38 B427, compiled by fǎsì Yìyún Rúpéng 如鵬 děng biān; multiple prefaces dated 1683–1694, including one by his cousin-master Shèngkě Déyù 德玉 (signed “華嵒拙叔”) in 康熙癸酉冬 = 1693.
