Huìjī 慧機 (1603-11-22 – 1668-10-26), hào Tiěbì 鐵壁 (“Iron-Wall”), was the chief Sìchuān LínjìYángqí dharma-heir of Jùyún Chuīwàn Guǎngzhēn 廣真 聚雲吹萬廣真 (1582–1639) and the principal intermediary of the Jùyúnpài 聚雲派 to its third generation. Native of Yíngshān 營山 (Shǔběi, Sìchuān); lay surname Luó 羅; family of scholar-gentry with multiple jǔrén / jìnshì ancestors. Born Wànlì 31 癸卯 10/20 寅時 = 1603-11-22 Gregorian, died Kāngxī 7 戊申 9/21 = 1668-10-26, shìshòu 66, sēnglà 50. Practiced an eight-year household vegetarian fast after his father’s death at 8 suì; at age 19 bǐguān 閉關 three years at Dàzhú 大竹 in Sìchuān. Tonsured at 25 under a Western-Indian monk (西竺僧); full precepts at the precipice of Zhōngnánshān 終南山 where he met Chuīwàn Guǎngzhēn. Decisive awakening at age 33 (1635) under Guǎngzhēn at Jùyúnsì. Continuous residence as Guǎngzhēn’s chief shǒuzhòng 首眾 from then until Guǎngzhēn’s death in Chóngzhēn 12 = 1639/8/28, when Huìjī succeeded to the Jùyún abbacy. Ten subsequent abbacies over a 32-year preaching-career: Jùyún 聚雲, Fēngdū Dìzàngyuàn 酆都地藏院, Fúzhōu Yínwēng 涪州吟翁, Shízhù Sānjiào 石砫三教, Chángxī Yúnjí 長溪雲集, Wànxiàn Yúnlái 萬縣雲來, Liángshān Qìngzhōngsì 梁山慶忠寺 (where the hào “Qìngzhōng” attaches), Zhōngzhōu Yúnyányuàn 忠州雲巖院, Nánbīn Bǎoshèngsì 南濵寶聖寺, and finally Zhōngzhōu Lóngchāng / Zhìpíng Chányuàn 龍昌 / 治平禪院 — the last being the Táng-era willow-planting site of Bái Jūyì 白居易, from which the closing Tiěbì hào Zhìpíng derives. Died at Zhìpíng, with half his relic-remains interred at 燈來 三山燈來’s Gāofēng 高峰 and half at Zhìpíng’s Báilù Cave 白鹿洞 vicinity.
Twenty-three named dharma-heirs per the Xùdēng zhèngtǒng roster: Sānshān Dēnglái 燈來 (compiler of KR6q0448, KR6q0449, KR6q0450, KR6q0451; author of KR6q0169 and KR6q0454), Chéngdū Shílóu Dēngyù 成都石樓燈昱, Dōngmíng Méishān Dēngfǔ 東明眉山燈甫, Qìngyún Héngshān Dēngbǐng 慶雲衡山燈炳, Tàipíng Sānkōng Dēnggǎo 太平三空燈杲, Gāofēng Qiáosōng Dēngyì 高峰橋松燈億, Tánzhōu Wànfēng Zhìshàn 潭州萬峰至善, Zhìpíng Zhúfēng Huànmǐn 幻敏 治平竺峰幻敏 (compiler of KR6q0451), and others — twenty-three named monks plus eighteen lay-disciples per the 《竺峰敏禪師語錄》 juan 5 liánfāngjì.
