Gě Hóng 葛洪 (283–343), zì Zhì chuān 稚川, self-styled Bào pǔ zǐ 抱朴子 (“Master Embracing the Unhewn”), from Jù róng 句容 (Jiāngsū). Eastern-Jìn alchemist, physician, and author of the foundational Daoist alchemical encyclopedia the Bào pǔ zǐ, divided into Inner Chapters (Nèi piān 內篇, on immortality, alchemy, and techniques) and Outer Chapters (Wài piān 外篇, on socio-political thought). Also author of the Shén xiān zhuàn 神仙傳 (Biographies of Divine Immortals) and the medical Zhǒu hòu bèi jí fāng 肘後備急方. The third juàn of KR5c0278 Tài qīng jīn yè shén dān jīng is attributed to him. Gě Hóng 葛洪 (?–1237), zì Róngfǔ 容甫, hào Pánshì lǎorén 蟠室老人, posthumous title Duānjiǎn 端簡. A second, distinct figure of the late Southern Sòng — not to be confused with the Eastern-Jìn alchemist above. Native of Dōngyáng 東陽 in Wùzhōu 婺州 (modern Jīnhuá, Zhèjiāng). Jìnshì of Chúnxī 11 (1184). His career rose under Níngzōng: in the Jiādìng era (1208–1224) he reached Cānzhī zhèngshì 參知政事 (Vice Counselor of State) and Guānwéndiàn xuéshì 觀文殿學士 — substantive senior appointments. His one significant scholarly work is the KR2o0009 Shèshǐ suíbǐ 涉史隨筆 in 1 juàn (26 historical-criticism essays, composed during a home-mourning period after 1184), presented to the chief minister of the day before he had himself risen to high office.
