Fāng Yǒuzhí 方有執 ( Zhōngxíng 中行, born 1523, fl. late Wànlì period 萬曆, 明), Míng-period scholar-physician of Shèxiàn 歙縣 (Ānhuī). Author of the influential Shānghán lùn tiáobiàn 傷寒論條辨 (KR3e0082, 8 juan, with appended Běncǎo chāo 本草鈔 1 juan, Huò wèn 或問 1 juan, Jìng shū 痙書 1 juan; preface 1589, postface 1591, yǐn 引 1593, printed Wànlì rénchén 1592). Composed over 20+ years. The work is the foundational late-Míng “Restore-the-Old-Cháng-shā” (Chángshā fùgǔ pài 長沙復古派) revolutionary critique of the Wáng Shūhé editorial sequence and Chéng Wúyǐ commentary of the Shānghán lùn — arguing that both Wáng Shūhé’s editorial reorganization and Chéng Wúyǐ’s annotation had corrupted Zhāng Zhòngjǐng’s original meaning. Fāng’s reconstruction of the Shānghán lùn attempts to restore the original Chángshā (i.e. Hàn-period) textual sequence. The work was the immediate ancestor of 喻昌 Yú Chāng’s Shànglùn piān 尚論篇, and through Yú the foundational document of the late-Míng / early-Qīng Shānghán “ancient-text-restoration” school.
